Over the past year, some of our proudest moments were when we gave back to our communities. Whether we were planting trees in Manila, cycling to raise money for Ukraine or painting homes in New Zealand, throughout 2022 Bluestone employees were united in our commitment to giving back and doing our bit to help make the world a better place.
One Tree Planted
Bluestone has been in partnership with OneTreePlanted and FEED since 2020, and since then we’ve been committed to planting three trees for every home loan we settle and 100 trees for every try the Penrith Panthers score.
To date, we’ve planted over 48,000 trees across Manila, Australia and New Zealand! All our trees are carefully chosen to support local ecosystems and wildlife, focusing on areas that have been impacted by bushfires, logging, clearance or invasive species.
Habitat for Humanity
Earlier this year, our Australian and New Zealand teams joined Habitat for Humanity to spend the day refurbishing homes for women and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness. Our New Zealand team managed to sand and paint an entire house in one day! The homeowners were incredibly grateful and meant that their house was ready for the winter months.
Pocket City Farms
The Australian Legal, Risk and Compliance team spent a morning volunteering at Pocket City Farms in Camperdown. The team learnt about growing all different kinds of plants, fruits and vegetables sustainably, as well as spending some time volunteering on the farm.
Cycle for Ukraine
In partnership with Unicef, Bluestone employees took to the pedals to support people across Russia, Ukraine and the surrounding regions. We installed a stationary bike in each of our offices, and cycled a combined 880km – the distance from Kyiv to Warsaw.
Thanks to the generous donations of staff, friends and family members, as well as Bluestone matching every donation and contributing an extra $2 per km, we were able to raise an amazing $6,225.
Feed it Forward
To end the year, Bluestone NZ partnered with Auckland City Mission to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries for families in need over the Christmas period. The NZ team also spent a day volunteering at one of Auckland City Mission’s distribution centres, helping to pack food and clothing boxes.
We’re incredibly grateful to be in a position to give back to those in need and do our bit for our communities. We are committed to our charity partnerships and can’t wait to see what new initiatives and volunteer opportunities we can support in 2023.
